Tv3 Secures Rights To 2007 Rugby World Cup
Hot on the heels of New Zealand securing hosting of the 2011 Rugby World Cup, TV3 confirms it has secured New Zealand broadcast rights to the 2007 event in France.
“This is a significant and historical achievement for TV3, and I am delighted our track record as the major free-to-air broadcaster of Rugby in New Zealand has been endorsed with this announcement,” said CanWest MediaWorks CEO, Brent Impey.
The rights enable TV3 to screen all 2007 Rugby World Cup New Zealand games live, including all quarter finals, semi finals and the final.
All New Zealand games will be repeated to ensure as many New Zealanders as possible get to enjoy them.
“As a build up to New Zealand hosting RWC 2011 the tournament will create even more interest in rugby, and we know New Zealanders will go out of their way to watch 3 Sport’s coverage of the event,” he said.
Schedules for non New Zealand games will be announced closer to the time.
“At TV3 this bid has been a real team effort over the past twelve months, with an integrated pitch from the network which covered Sport, Programming, News, Marketing and Sales,” Mr Impey said.
The contract covers all broadcast rights
The value of the rights agreement is undisclosed.
The 2007 Rugby World Cup commences on 7 September and runs until 20 October. It will be hosted across ten cities in France, as well as matches hosted in Cardiff and Edinburgh.
