Southern dominance in Lincoln Farmer of Year event

West Otago farmers took out first and second places in the final of the 2005 Lincoln University Foundation Rabobank Farmer of the Year Competition, judged at Lincoln University today. (6 Dec.)

Named Farmers of the Year and winners of a $10,000 travel award were Nelson and Fiona Hancox, who farm 441 hectares at Kowhai Downs near Gore.

In second place, winning a $5000 travel award, were Nola and Brian Howden, who farm 227 hectares at Waikoikoi, near Tapanui.

Winners of the third prize, a $2000 award, were Bill and Shirley Wright, who farm 357 hectares at Cave, South Canterbury.

This year’s category for the award was Lamb Producer/Finisher, and it was the 23rd competition since the annual event was founded in 1983.
