Simpson Grierson Chooses Canon

Canon New Zealand wins significant reprographics tender

Leading commercial law firm, Simpson Grierson, has appointed Canon New Zealand as its reprographics and business imaging solutions partner. The firm put the contract out to tender to coincide with its shift to modern new premises in Auckland’s CBD.

Simpson Grierson Information Services Director, Valerie Fogg, says Canon demonstrated great vision.

“We were looking for more than just an upgrade; we were looking to work in partnership with someone. Canon presented a roadmap that showed the solutions to our current needs as well as future upgrade paths that won’t involve a lot of additional cost down the line.”

Fifty five networked Canon imageRUNNER Multi-Function Devices (MFDs) have been installed in Simpson Grierson’s Auckland and Wellington offices together with a number of stand-alone printers. Canon has also introduced a number of newly-released software applications that integrate fully with the firm’s existing business processes such as billing systems, macros and email.

Tara Worley, Sales Operations Manager for Canon New Zealand’s Business Imaging Solutions Group says Canon looks forward to a long-term partnership with Simpson Grierson, developing new or adapting existing solutions as its needs evolve.

“The solutions introduced have been tailored specifically for the unique environment of a busy law firm. Canon’s eCopy solution integrates the paper and digital worlds without forcing the legal profession to change the way they work. Importantly, it is very easy to use and it creates an audit trail.”

The benefits of eCopy have led to its use in more than a third of the top 100 legal practices in the world. Simpson Grierson is the first law firm in New Zealand to use eCopy.

Canon also installed e-Maintenance, a secure service solution that automatically polls printers and MFDs via the local network, reporting printer and copier faults directly to Canon without the need for customer intervention and dramatically reducing Simpson Grierson’s involvement in device administration.

The implementation of the Canon equipment in each office was carried out with no downtime to Simpson Grierson staff, and its benefits are already being felt by the firm.

“The new equipment is faster, more efficient and user-friendly and it enhances our ability to deliver the best service to our clients,” said Ms Fogg.

“As a leading commercial and technology-focused law firm it is Simpson Grierson’s business strategy to take advantage of technology developments to give us a competitive advantage. Through our new partnership with Canon we have certainly done this.”
