NZ Seafood Industry welcomes analysis of carbon tax
The New Zealand Seafood Industry Council welcomes a cost benefit analysis of the plan to introduce carbon tax proposed
by Peter Dunne of United Future.
“The seafood industry is already subject to many financial pressures such as high fuel costs, the strong dollar and
government charges. An additional tax is the last thing we need,” says Owen Symmans, Chief Executive New Zealand Seafood
Industry Council.
“It is estimated that the proposed carbon charge will cost us well in excess of $20 million every year, a completely
unproductive cost to the industry.”
The New Zealand seafood industry is the only one in the Southern Hemisphere that would be affected by a carbon charge,
Mr Symmans said.
