CTU supports "Super Size My Pay" campaign

"A $12 per hour wage claim is clearly reasonable and the CTU is right behind the union led community campaign in Auckland for "super sizing" of fast food pay rates," Council of Trade Unions President Ross Wilson said today.

The Unite Union today launched their Super Size My Pay campaign, calling on the minimum wage to be lifted to $12 per hour immediately, and for youth rates to be scrapped. The campaign is initially targeting fast food workers.

"Workers in the fast food industry are often on, or close to, minimum wage levels. Workers deserve a fair share of corporate profits, and a lift in the adult minimum wage to $12 an hour and the removal of youth rates will make a real difference to the incomes of these workers."

"There is now a wide consensus that New Zealand has a low wage crisis. A $12 an hour minimum wage is not unreasonable, and we support campaigns to highlight this to businesses, government and the public," said Ross Wilson.
