Harveys Hawke’s Bay Raises $5,000 for
Cystic Fibrosis
21 November 2005: A record number of starters at the recent Harveys Hawke’s Bay annual Charity Duathlon in Napier, produced a record figure for Cystic Fibrosis.
The 30km run-bike-run event, held at the Mission Estate Winery in Napier, attracted twice the number of participants than last year, in an ironkids junior and an adult race, which raised more than $5,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Association of New Zealand.
The charity event has proven hugely popular with the locals and this year it attracted some notable celebrities to increase its appeal.
Mountaineer Mark Inglis, New Zealand Ironman champion Cameron Brown, and Trans Atlantic Rower Rob Hamil, took part in the race and according to Harveys Hawke’s Bay Manager, Paul Harvey, they made a great contribution. “They were put together in celebrity teams and then handicapped to bring them back into the field. It was fantastic to watch, and the crowd loved it, ” says Paul.
“It was a lot of fun. Everyone had a brilliant day and enjoyed the great weather.”
The day concluded with a prize giving, with the winner taking home a trip to Sydney, along with spot prizes and prizes for the people who raised the most money for Cystic Fibrosis.
Harveys Real Estate, which has 60 branches nationwide, is the principal sponsor of the Cystic Fibrosis Association of New Zealand and last year raised more than $75,000 for the Association.
