World rugby cup great coup; infrastructure development must be accelerated
New Zealand getting the world rugby cup is great news, the Employers & Manufacturers Association (Northern) says.
“Now we need to make sure our infrastructure is up to the mark to maximise the opportunities it will present,” said Bruce Goldsworthy, EMA’s acting chief executive.
“Staging the world rugby cup is the greatest news for business and for the economy, but it could turn into a shambles if we don’t get our act together on transport.
“The cup presents just the impetus needed to accelerate the building of infrastructure in Auckland and throughout the country.
“Our Prime Minister should honour the commitment she gave the International Rugby Board by translating it into heightened action on transport, electricity and other infrastructure services.
“We will be looking to both central and local government to work together to ensure the event is the success every New Zealander expects it to be.”
