NZUS Council Chair To Visit Washington
The Chairman of the New Zealand United States Council, Rt Hon Jim Bolger, will visit Washington DC 12-17 November.
While in Washington Mr Bolger, former Prime Minister and Ambassador to the United States, is to Chair a meeting of the Executive Board of the World Agricultural Forum.
Mr Bolger said that from a Council perspective his visit was timely given the recent election in New Zealand and comments from the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Winston Peters about the Government’s interest in expanding the relationship with the US.
“The NZUS Council is a non governmental organisation but we are ready to do what we can to assist our governments to develop further the already substantial bilateral relationship. My visit will enable us to continue to engage directly with corporate leaders and key contacts in the Administration and Congress, working closely with our counterpart organisation, the USNZ Council”.
Mr Bolger’s programme will include meetings with Congressional leaders, the National Association of Manufacturers and USNZ Council members. He will be guest of honour at a reception hosted by the New Zealand Ambassador for the National Economists Club at the New Zealand Residence.
Mr Bolger returns to New Zealand on 27 November after participating in the Commonwealth Business Forum in Malta.
