Interislander VW Beetle arrives in Gisborne

A VW Beetle is helping raise the profile of i-Sites and Interislander, while encouraging Gisborne families to make plans for their summer holidays.

“Mavis the VW Beetle,” is part of a joint marketing campaign between Interislander and i-Sites to raise awareness about i-Sites as the place to go to get independent information and advice, make travel plans and book summer ferry crossings.

“Mavis” was at the Gisborne Wine and Food Festival during the weekend and will be making appearances at the Gisborne Quarter Marathon, the Garden Walk, and the Speedway Guy Fawkes meeting on November 5.

Interislander General Manager of Passenger Services Martin Weekes is enthusiastic about the new campaign. "Interislander and i-Sites are working in partnership to grow both of our businesses on a domestic level. Our combined industry knowledge means we’re able to deliver a superior tourism experience for all New Zealanders.

“This partnership is an extension of a programme to look after New Zealand’s international tourists, with i-Site centres nationwide providing free, impartial information to visitors to our country,” Mr Weekes said.

CEO of Tourism Eastland, Graham Breckell said “Mavis” presented an exciting opportunity.

“Gisborne is really looking forward to showing her off at events around town, and helping to raise the awareness about our i-Site and Interislander.”

The Interislander’s i-Sites joint marketing campaign is part of a strategy to grow the domestic passenger market whilst supporting local tourism ventures and Tourism New Zealand initiatives. i-Sites around New Zealand are being given the use of Mavis the VW Beetle for a month.
