IPSTAR New Zealand gives green light to NATCOM
IPSTAR New Zealand Limited today announced that it has given the green light for NATCOM to commence sales of IPSTAR
products and services as a channel partner.
This signals another step in the growth of IPSTAR in New Zealand as a viable satellite broadband service. NATCOM have
expertise in broadband network deployments for various customers who demand high quality broadband connectivity and
being a channel partner means that the depth of its broadband solutions is enhanced.
The new IPSTAR satellite (Thaicom4) was launched in August and is billed as the largest ever commercial satellite to be
put into orbit at 6.5 tonnes. Following successful in-orbit testing, the IPSTAR satellite was handed over by Lorel Space
Systems to the owners, Shin Satellite PLC last week and will provide service to New Zealand from about mid November as
its generation two services.
NATCOM (National Communications Corporation Ltd) has been in the business of providing broadband connectivity for a few
years and in recent times has specialised in putting broadband solutions together for rural and specialist customers
such as exclusive holiday lodges.
“We’ve used the IPSTAR service extensively over the past three months and have run a variety of services which include
basic web browsing, public access internet, Voice Services (VOIP) and secure private networks” says Frayne Cooke, CEO of
NATCOM, “Offering IPSTAR as an alternative broadband network for far flung locations means we can offer a true broadband
experience anywhere you can see a western sky.”
NATCOM intend to continue the growth of satellite broadband as a core product and have initiatives to utilise IPSTAR as
a viable internet connection for communities. After installation of an IPSTAR unit, NATCOM would also offer a wireless
broadband solution such as WiMax in a community to provide broadband access where no other solution could work.
And with recent growth in the boutique accommodation industry, NATCOM is already touting a full access solution for
owners and guests to ensure the broadband world is only a click away using the IPSTAR system combined with a NATCOM
solution.
“We’ve been impressed with the focus NATCOM want to give in promoting IPSTAR” said Tony Hill, Country Manager of IPSTAR
New Zealand Limited, “These guys have proven to us that they know how to fully utilise the product so a customer gets
the most benefit out of satellite broadband – especially now on the eve of our generation two services launch, its very
important to have channel partners like NATCOM helping us grow.”
With the recent growth in broadband and the added benefit it brings to people, IPSTAR recently announced that New
Zealand could have a market size of around 55,000 satellite stations.
