Sharemilker Competition Covers The Country
21 October 2005
The 2006 New Zealand Sharemilker of the Year competition will again be a truly national event with the inclusion of a Top of the North region.
There has not been a Federated Farmers of New Zealand-run competition in the region for the past few years, so it is "really great" to see the area once again represented, says competition chair, Alison Watters.
"It is extremely pleasing to think the competition again covers 12 regions and excellent news for sharemilkers in the top of the north who will again have the chance to vie for that highly prized title, New Zealand Sharemilker of the Year."
The Top of the North regional winner will join 11 other regional finalists at the national competition to be staged in Christchurch - home of last year's winners Leo and Kathryn van den Beuken - on May 6, 2006
For the first time, contract milkers will be eligible to enter the competition to compete for all merit awards and third place or runner up. Contract milkers are not eligible to win the regional title.
"This is good news for sharemilkers in the northern part of New Zealand. We are keen to be part of a united Sharemilker of the Year competition across the whole country," said Denis Anderson, President of the Far North, Whangarei, and Kaipara Districts province of Federated Farmers of New Zealand.
The 2006 New Zealand Sharemilker of the Year Competition is run in association with Federated Farmers of New Zealand (Inc) and is sponsored by Dairy InSight, ACC, Bank of New Zealand, Blue Wing Honda, Dexcel, Ecolab, Fonterra, Livestock Improvement and Ravensdown.
Entries close on December 20, 2005.
Entry forms are available from Federated Farmers PH 0800 327 646, or by contacting the regional convenors and sponsor representatives or can be downloaded from www.fedfarm.org.nz/smoty
