Soil & Health Welcomes Anderton As Agri Minister

The Soil & Health Association of New Zealand welcomes the appointment of Jim Anderton as Minister of Agriculture.
With the emergence of Organics Aotearoa New Zealand, the new organic sector organisation, this new appointment couldn’t have come at a better time said Soil & Health spokesperson Steffan Browning.
Jim Anderton’s Progressive Party policy on Rural Affairs supports the development of the organic sector and the policy on Genetic Engineering encourages a strong liability regime and precautionary approach to the environmental release of genetically engineered organisms.
With the Green Party negotiation agreement with Labour enhancing advisory services for organics, and the appointment of Mr Anderton as Minister of Agriculture, the prospects for an organic value added approach to New Zealand’s primary production seems assured, said Mr Browning.
New Zealand's environment and clean green image should benefit with Mr Anderton in charge.
Soil & Health look forward to working with Mr Anderton in his new role.
