Mobilisation of New Zealand Businesses Accelerates

New Zealanders are increasingly reaching for their mobile instead of their desk phone, according to new figures released on the eve of the Vodafone Business Mobility Roadshow.

The two-week national business mobility roadshow kicks off in Christchurch tomorrow and is billed as 'a journey to the centre of the mobile world'. The interactive exhibition of New Zealand's hottest new mobile business solutions has something for every business wanting to increase staff productivity, reduce costs, increase revenue and find more ways to differentiate their services.

The roadshow offers businesses a practical demonstration of the complete suite of Vodafone mobility solutions in the areas of high speed wireless broadband, mobile email, 3G video calling, the wireless office, push to talk, m-Government and the latest 3G high speed data card (VMC).

Research conducted by Strategy Analytics shows approximately 50% of the time people are using their mobile while they're actually in the office, says Vodafone Director of Business Markets Phil Patel.

Not surprisingly, many companies are now assessing the need to even have landlines as they seek to reduce duplicated fixed costs and reduce the overall cost of running their business.

"We are finding as companies increase access to mobile communications the natural progression is to start accessing the availability of information and application services to their mobile devices as well."

"Our research shows that office workers are far more productive when not tied to their desks. Getting the information you need quickly is crucial to business success so missing a call or the person you need to speak to can have a huge impact," Patel says.

"The big picture business implications to this growing trend are real and many smart business operators are doing away with outdated landlines to save significant amounts of money and ensure their workers can get information where and when they need it.

"The savings also continue with tailored workplace call plans such as talkZoneZero which allows free calls between team members any time of the day. Vodafone research shows the average talkZoneZero customer saves $32 per connection per month on talkZoneZero, compared with their previous Vodafone spend.

To show the practical solutions to modern business challenges Vodafone also gathered and is travelling with all the best New Zealand business mobility solution providers, such as Microsoft, HP, EFTPOS NZ and ATRAC.

The huge range of applications on show highlights the massive opportunity for business to leverage technology to work smarter as well as faster.

For example, companies can now track, record, evaluate and train in ways the competition haven't even thought of.

"The launch of Vodafone's 3G network opens a whole new world of opportunity to New Zealand business," says Patel. "Declining margins, operational inefficiency, client frustration are just some of the challenges New Zealand business leaders can find answers to by adopting tailored mobility solutions."
