New Metro editor announced

ACP Media this week announced the appointment of Lauren Quaintance as editor of Metro magazine.

Ms Quaintance comes to Metro from the position as assistant editor of the(sydney)magazine, a monthly magazine distributed with The Sydney Morning Herald. She is best known in New Zealand as an award-winning current affairs journalist, most notably with North & South magazine. Lauren was also launch editor of the Sunday Star-Times’ Sunday magazine.

“We are delighted to have someone with Lauren’s outstanding journalistic pedigree to lead Metro, one of ACP Media’s flagship titles,” says Debra Millar, ACP Media’s Group Publisher – Consumer Titles.

“With 25 years of history behind it, and recent readership and circulation gains, Metro is one of the most talked about and best-loved magazines in the country. Lauren’s appointment will ensure it continues to be talked about in years to come as the authority on all things Auckland,” says Millar.

Lauren Quaintance has worked in the US and the UK, and has been the recipient of numerous prestigious journalism awards and international scholarships. In 2001-2002 she completed a masters degree in journalism at Columbia University, during which time she covered the September 11 terrorist attacks in New York for New Zealand television, radio and print media.

“Metro is one of the best magazines in Australasia and I’m thrilled to be returning to Auckland to take up the editor’s position,” Quaintance says.

“I will relish the challenge of working with some of the best journalists in the country, ensuring Metro continues to evolve, and attracts a new generation of Aucklanders to its pages. No other publication can match Metro’s authority on Auckland.”

Quaintance will be taking up the position in early December in time for Metro’s 25th anniversary next year.

- Awarded the David Low Fellow, Green College, at Oxford University (UK) in 1999, where she examined the impact of the internet on the media
