AA Supports This Years Young Designer Awards
Winners for the 2005 Young Designer Awards have been selected and will be announced at an awards evening held at the Christchurch Convention Centre on 12 October.
The Young Designer Awards aim to promote, assist, and encourage the talents of New Zealand secondary school students in all fields of design, in an effort to raise the standard of design in New Zealand education and industry.
Grant Gallagher, Art Director for AA Directions, was involved in the judging process, helping to select three winners from 60 entries in the Communication Design category. Students who entered this category were assigned a brief to develop design concepts for one of New Zealand's most widely read magazines, AA Directions.
"The overall quality of the top entries was extremely high, especially when you consider they were produced by relatively inexperienced intermediate and high school students" he says.
AA Directions Deputy Editor Kathryn Webster says they are very happy to be supporting these awards as they provide a scale against which students can test their skills before entering the workforce.
"This is very important in today's competitive publication industry," she says.
A "best of" display of artwork from the seven design categories will be held at the Christchurch Design and Arts College from 10-12 October and at the Christchurch Convention Centre prior to the awards evening on 12 October. Members of the public are invited to view the works during this time.
