Maori Television Brings Home the Gold – Again!

Maori Television has won a gold award for the second year in a row at the PROMAX & BDA ANZ 2005 Awards held in Sydney, Australia, late last month (Note to media: September 23-24, 2005).

Maori Television’s promotions department was nominated for six awards at the prestigious event, scooping top honours in the Potluck category for an on-air promotion entitled ‘Tamariki Waiata – Colours’.

The PROMAX Awards are recognised around the globe as the highest accolade for promotion and marketing professionals working in electronic media.

Maori Television promotions manager Sheila Byrne says the winning entry was a team effort on a limited budget.

“The waiata was designed to provide educational television that would teach kids from all races that did not have the language in such a way that they would want to learn,” Sheila Byrne says.

“We all used our natural talents – I came up with the concept, Ngatapa Black and Shane Taipari produced the music, and Remote Control designed the graphics which brought the promo to life.”

Maori Television chief executive Jim Mather says this was the channel’s fifth award in the past 12 months.

“We are thrilled since we know it can take years to earn them,” he says.
