Huge Voter Turnout Gives 99c Sunday Clear Majority

Huge Voter Turnout Gives 99c Sunday A Clear Majority

The outcome of the General Election may be still in limbo but there has been one clear-cut voting outcome this week. Telecom’s Your Call voting campaign has seen 99c Sunday comfortably beating $10 Talkathon as the calling special that Telecom will run this weekend.

Voting took place from 6pm Friday 16 September until midnight Wednesday 21 September. More than 1.9 million votes were cast by nearly 40,000 New Zealanders. It was a close race until yesterday when 99c Sunday took a clear lead and eventually won with a 350,948 vote majority.

“We are very pleased with the voter turnout and have been surprised by the effort people have made to vote as many times as they can,” says Telecom spokesperson Kelly Walker.

“With 40,000 people taking the time to vote in this campaign, it’s obvious that our customers want greater control over their calling options.”

“With this great result we will definitely be looking at more ways of letting our customers have a greater say in the specials we run in the future,” she says.

The 99c Sunday calling special means Telecom customers can talk for up to 2 hours and pay no more than 99c for a call to any New Zealand landline. It will run from midnight Saturday 24 September to midnight Sunday 25 September.

The special applies to direct dial voice calls from your home phone and excludes calling cards, 059, 0161, Quick Call and calls to mobiles. Normal charges apply after 2 hours.
