Caltex Promotes Tips to Reducing Fuel Bills

Caltex Promotes Practical Tips to Reducing Weekly Fuel Bills

WELLINGTON, September 19, 2005 – Caltex New Zealand Limited will distribute a Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) brochure, ‘Think Tank - Simple Tips To Save You Money on Petrol,’ across its retail sites, as part of a new programme to provide practical tips on how New Zealanders can reduce their weekly fuel bill.

Other elements of the programme include a new counter card for consumers to take away, refreshed information at www.caltex.co.nz and at the Caltex help-line, 0800-REFUEL (73 3835). Caltex is also working with retail staff to help New Zealanders choose the right fuel for their car. A recent report presented to the Ministry of Economic Development shows that only one percent of cars need 98-octane fuel - changing from 98-octane to Premium 96 or Regular 91 petrol could save a consumer up to ten cents per litre.

“With long-term key fuel indicators incredibly volatile, being fuel efficient is the best way for New Zealanders to manage how much they spend on petrol,” said Nick Hannan, Country Chairman and GM Marketing, Caltex New Zealand. “We’re promoting many practical fuel efficiency tips that motorists are unaware of – for example using Havoline oil in your car can reduce fuel consumption by up to 6 per cent. A Think Tank brochure should be mandatory reading for all motorists.”

Bill Boyd, Manager Marketing and Communications at EECA said that the Think Tank brochure was launched in mid 2004, but is now more relevant than ever. “We seem to have reached a key point where high petrol prices are starting to change motorist behaviour. Following the tips in the Think Tank brochure will enable drivers to become more fuel efficient, which will save them money and help New Zealand achieve a future where fuel is a sustainable resource.”
