Investigation of extension of regulated services

Issued 15 September 2005/031

Telecommunications Act: Investigation of extension of regulated services

The Commission has today released its preliminary view on whether to investigate extension of the period of regulation of the thirteen services originally incorporated within the Telecommunications Act and is seeking comment from interested parties.

At this stage, the Commission considers that there are reasonable grounds to investigate ten of the thirteen services, including the interconnection, retail, national roaming and number portability services, and co-location on cellular mobile transmission sites.

The preliminary view paper is available on the Commission’s website at: http://www.comcom.govt.nz/IndustryRegulation/Telecommunications/Investigations/reviewofregulatedservices.aspx

The Commission invites submission from interested parties on this paper by 30 September 2005.
