DCANZ appoints new executive director and welcomes new member

The Dairy Companies Association of New Zealand (DCANZ) has appointed Shane Lodge as its new executive director.

Mr Lodge replaces John Kennedy-Good, who is taking up the post of Company Secretary at Landcorp.

Mr Lodge’s involvement with the dairy industry goes back to 1982 when, newly graduated from Lincoln University with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural science, he became a dairy advisory officer for the then Ministry of Agriculture.

He subsequently worked in supplier liaison for the South Island Dairy Co-operative and, following that company’s merger with New Zealand Dairy Group, became Senior Field Officer for the South Island.

Most recently, he has held the position of Technical Services Manager with Fonterra.

DCANZ chairman Earl Rattray said Mr Lodge’s experience would be a great asset in his new role.

“Shane’s wide industry contacts and knowledge will be of real value in his role representing the collective interests of our manufacturing and marketing companies.”

Mr Rattray also welcomed Gisborne Milk Co-operative Ltd as a new member of the association, saying that by signing up the company was clearly demonstrating its willingness to play a part in wider dairy industry issues.

“The broader our membership, the better we can co-ordinate and represent the collective public policy interests of our member companies and the dairy industry as a whole,” Mr Rattray said.

Gisborne Milk is the seventh processing company to become a member of the association, joining Fonterra Co-operative Group, Tatua Co-operative Dairy Company, Westland Co-operative Dairy Company, Mainland Products, Open Country Cheese, and New Zealand Dairy Foods.
