Matchmaker’s Decade Of Success
What does a fourth-year accounting student, the owner of a restaurant chain, and the CFO from a manufacturing plant have in common?
The answer is Executive Insight. Introduced by the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1995, and celebrating its first decade this year, Executive Insight brings New Zealand’s leading accounting students together with some of the country’s most successful executives.
“Working with New Zealand business to grow our country’s capability and success is one of the key aims of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants. Win-win opportunities like Executive Insight celebrate excellence and support the future of the profession.” says Garry Muriwai, Chief Executive, New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants.
As part of this nation-wide programme, high-performing third and fourth year accountancy students from around the Wellington region will this week be placed in host organisations to experience life at the top of their profession.
“Executive Insight brings relevance to tertiary students and gives host organisations a fast track to the up and coming stars of the profession,” says Mr Muriwai.
The Executive Insight programme is run nationally, with each region coordinating their branch activities. Linda Cohen, Central Regional Manager explains:
“Each region has specific skills-needs and areas of high demand. The relationships we’ve forged with the host organisations enable us to match hosts and students to complement each others’ strengths.”
At the end of the programme students submit a written report on what they’ve learnt, with observations and recommendations for their assigned hosts providing an objective view from a fresh pair of eyes. The best reports are rewarded at branch events throughout the country.
“We’ve been impressed with the commitment our sponsors and host organisations have to the success of Executive Insight” said Mr Muriwai. “It demonstrates how the profession is actively building capability by working with us to develop links where they’ll be most effective and add another dimension to tertiary education.”
Wellington’s Executive Insight programme is sponsored by Deloitte.
