Canwest Mediaworks Acquires New Radio Station
Auckland: CanWest MediaWorks’ radio division, RadioWorks, has acquired Orewa based radio station Times FM from Times Media Group Ltd.
The purchase includes two FM frequencies 89.9FM and 96.6FM which together cover the Rodney district including: Whangaparaoa, Orewa, Warkworth, Wellsford, Matakana and surrounding districts.
“We have identified the Rodney district as an important long term growth area – it is one of New Zealand’s fastest growing regions, and we felt it was important to have a strong foothold in the area,” said CanWest MediaWorks CEO, Brent Impey.
“Times FM is a successful business, and our plan is to keep it operating as a strong local radio station, utilising the good team of staff already in place,” he said.
“Naturally, we hope to add value to the operation with our national structure supporting the local operation,” Mr Impey said.
The acquisition is for an undisclosed sum, and there will be no redundancies as a result of the change in ownership.
The purchase is effective 1 October 2005.
