Trucking Association National Road Carriers is looking for a commitment to completing Auckland’s State Highway Network from the major parties, that goes beyond the rhetoric and financial promises.
“Our members and the general public have had enough of undelivered promises on Auckland’s road solutions. There is a general lack of confidence in the time lines for construction provided by Transit due to past delays on key projects. This concern would be alleviated by the political parties committing to the projects being completed in the time frames identified”
“In fact, we believe it’s time political parties put their credibility on the line and provide a commitment to ensure the Auckland road projects are completed inside an 8 year time frame” says NRC Executive Director Bruce Reid.
“The 8 year timetable is not only justified and achievable but is also essential to the growth of Auckland’s economy”
“The Road Freight Industry is losing all the efficiencies gained over the past 10 years to congestion and delays caused by our incomplete network of roads. Our industry requires the completion of the planned roads with urgency, as the only viable freight option across our cities is by road.”
“We have attended many meetings over the past couple of months with politicians who have identified ways of funding construction, used examples of projects from overseas that have been completed in 2-3 year time frames, promised increased expenditure and funding options.
All have deferred back to 10 and 12 year time frames to getting the work done. It’s time for someone to be brave and put a stake in the sand at a party level that will give us confidence an end is in sight for the daily crawl that is Auckland’s Road Corridors”
