WORLD FIRST: SIA LAUNCHES LIVE TV

Singapore Airlines is the first airline in the world to introduce live TV on international flights. This exciting infotainment option follows the launch of Connexion by BoeingSM, an inflight wireless broadband service that provides customers in all three classes with real-time, high-speed and secure internet connectivity in March this year.

With this enhanced service, customers with wireless-enabled laptops can now send and receive emails, connect real-time with their corporate virtual private network and link up to top international news networks and watch live television from their laptops. Customers need not pay extra for live TV, other than that for Connexion by Boeing.

“With the introduction of broadband internet and now, live international TV, we bring the real-time environment into the cabin and to our customers,” says Singapore Airlines General Manager New Zealand Sak Hin Chin. “Customers can now stay connected with their corporate networks, engage in instant messaging, share photos of their trips with friends, as well as tune in to live news and sports events, just as they would on the ground.”

“Singapore Airlines is pushing this technology even further and in 2006 we will extend live television to customers’ individual seat-back screens,” added Mr Chin.

The four international channels to be beamed live are BBC World, EuroNews, Eurosportnews and CNBC.

In celebration of the launch of live television onboard, Singapore Airlines is offering customers two weeks of complimentary use of Connexion by Boeing from 20 July to 3 August 2005. Thereafter, normal charges will apply. All customers need to do is to bring a wireless-enabled laptop on board to enjoy the convenience of inflight internet connectivity.

Connexion by Boeing and live television is currently available on services between Singapore and London and will later be introduced to selected long haul flights. SIA PROUD TO SPONSOR
CHRISTCHURCH ARTS FESTIVAL

Singapore Airlines is proud to be sponsoring the exciting Christchurch Arts Festival (Applaud 05) which launches this week.

Held biennially in mid-Winter, the Festival presents a broad and bold programme of high quality arts events, including dance, music, opera, literary and visual arts. The Festival aims to take its audiences on a journey of discovery, containing a carefully selected mix of favourites, and new, innovative performance.

Singapore Airlines Manager South Island, Hugh Chevrant-Breton says: “We are genuinely thrilled to be supporting the festival. We have been flying to Christchurch for more than 19 years and believe the festival is a great way to give back to the Christchurch region.”

SAVOUR SINGAPORE FAVOURITES ON SINGAPORE AIRLINES

Passengers aboard Singapore Airlines are now enjoying trademark Singapore dishes with the introduction of two favourite recipes from the airline’s home country.

The infamous Singaporean Chicken Rice and Braised Duck with Yam Rice were introduced to the already delicious onboard menu in July as part of the standard Economy class meal service. Visitors can now begin their culinary experience before reaching the island’s shores and for Singaporeans travelling overseas it also means the opportunity to enjoy tastes of home.

The meal service will initially be available to customers on all flights between Singapore and China and will be progressively added to other selected services.
