New Zealand Contractors’ Federation/Hirepool Construction Awards
Recognising Excellence in the Civil Contracting Industry
The New Zealand Contractors’ Federation today announced the finalists of the annual Hirepool Construction Awards.
Chief Executive Richard Michael said the finalists represent the pinnacle of the civil contracting industry, in terms of
skills and commitment.
“The civil contracting industry, which is made up of civil engineering construction and general contracting companies,
is a vital part of building the infrastructure that we need for future economic growth,” Mr Michael said.
“The awards are a key way of recognising those NZCF members who are delivering outstanding work in building our national
infrastructure,” he said.
“For funders, it also shows the key role that Contractors’ Federation members are playing in delivering measurable
levels of service and professionalism. All Federation members are bound by a Code of Ethics covering ethical and
contractual obligations,” Mr Michael said.
The awards judge applicants on such key aspects as their professionalism, construction methods, customer relations,
human resources, teamwork, partnering, planning and control, quality control, pre-planning, financial controls, location
and logistics, site control and risk.
The awards are held in very high regard among funders and the wider construction industry.
This is the first year that Hirepool has been involved as principal sponsor of the Construction awards, which are now in
their 27th year.
Tenby Powell, Hirepool Managing Director, said his company was very supportive of NZCF and viewed being Principal
Sponsor as a means of being able to give something back to the industry.
“Hirepool recognises the importance that contractors and constructors play in developing New Zealand. In many cases they
are the unsung heroes who build roads that keep cities moving, lay drains and network cables, and manage our
infrastructural facilities – things that most of us take for granted. This is their opportunity to stand tall and
celebrate the contribution that they have made to the economic future of New Zealand,” said Mr Powell.
The Construction Award winners will be announced at a black tie dinner on Friday 5 August during the Contractors’
Federation’s 61st annual conference in Christchurch. The annual conference will discuss key issues based on how the
industry can work with Government and funders to successfully deliver on the high demand for infrastructure in New
Zealand.
The civil contracting industry provides and maintains the country's infrastructure of public services - including
energy, transport and telecommunications. The Contractors’ Federation is the national organisation of the industry
