Woosh Wireless celebrates customer milestone

Woosh Wireless has achieved a 50 per cent growth in customer numbers over the past five months and will have 15,000 customers by the end of this month (July), said Chief Executive Bob Smith.

Mr Smith said the company was pleased with customer satisfaction levels that its research showed were very positive.

Within Woosh's network coverage, the company was now averaging a market share of around 30% in terms of broadband customers, demonstrating its competitiveness against ADSL and other offerings.

"We know that we're having an impact on the market," he said.

He said the company was pleased, but not complacent, having set aggressive targets to grow its business.

Woosh's target is to deliver coverage for all the main cities in New Zealand. It is currently rolling out its network in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Southland.

Mr Smith said that Woosh's founding vision of offering customers a way of circumventing Telecom's local loop remained its core attraction.

"Woosh's broadband service is easy, affordable and self-contained," he said. "Our progress to date demonstrates that Woosh portable broadband is meeting a market demand."

Mr Smith said trials of phone services were proceeding as planned, but that the company was yet to set a launch date.
