Labour and National joint favourites for election
CENTREBET MEDIA RELEASE (JULY 25, 2005)
Labour and National joint favourites for NZ election
Centrebet has installed Labour and National as New Zealand general election joint favourites.
Labour and National are 5-6 apiece to provide the prime minister after the September 17 vote, with Centrebet offering 150-1 that New Zealand First leader Winston Peters takes the top job.
"It looks like one of the closest elections ever so we're going to let the punters determine which party is the favourite," says Centrebet's Gerard Daffy. "They're right 99.9 percent of the time."
Centrebet specialises in election betting and there is evidence to support its claim that its odds are more accurate than polls. Stanford University's Justin Wolfers and Andrew Leigh, of Harvard, found that Centrebet's odds on the 2001 Australian federal election not only forecast the overall result correctly but also provided precise estimates of outcomes in more than 40 electorates.
Wolfers (http://bpp.wharton.upenn.edu/jwolfers) and Leigh ( http://andrewleigh.com) also praised the accuracy of Centrebet's exclusive odds on last year's Australian federal election.
