Message To Air NZ International Cabin Crews

21 July 2005
Media release

Message To Air New Zealand International Cabin Crews – “You’ve Made Your Point….”

As New Zealand’s flag carrier, when Air New Zealand goes on strike the rest of the nation suffers, and so does our image as a great place to visit and do business….

Michael Barnett, Auckland Chamber of Commerce CEO, said the persistence of the strike action by Air New Zealand’s international cabin crews was a “throw back” to the days when Cook Strait ferry unions went on strike during school holidays.

“There is no value in Air New Zealand cabin crews continuing the strike when all it does is:

- Threaten what’s left of tourism the airline could carry,
- Turns business travellers to other airlines, and,
- Punishes families with advance bookings seeking to have a rare and long anticipated school holiday break.”

“You’ve made your point – isn’t it time you got back on duty, so that we can stop having to cite New Zealand as an uncertain destination when coming here under our nation’s flag carrier?”
