Farmers aid Tsunami Relief
Rural supplies retailer RD1 has presented a second cheque to the Red Cross for its Tsunami Relief Fund on behalf of RD1 customers.
The cheque of $5,500 was made up of contributions from Fonterra farmers as part of a special donation scheme launched in January.
The scheme was offered so that farmers who are RD1 Partner Club members could convert their RD1 Partner Points into cash donations. This went towards the Tsunami Relief Fund in a move which sees the farming community directly connecting with Tsunami victims who are still in need.
An additional $10,000 donation from Fonterra farmers was presented to the Red Cross earlier in the year.
RD1 CEO John Lea says the concept was a natural way for RD1, a wholly owned Fonterra subsidiary, to offer customers an instant and easy way to assist.
“The horrific events that devastated parts of Asia over the Christmas period have had an effect on us all in some way,” he said.
“Farmers have assisted in many ways – this is one of them.”
