Fonterra yet to assess effects of Takaka fire

Media Release
22 June 2005

Fonterra yet to assess effects of Takaka fire.

Fonterra says it will be some time before it is able to assess the effects of last night's fire at the co-operative's Takaka manufacturing site.

Director Group Manufacturing Max Parkin said Fonterra was unlikely to be able to begin investigations into the cause of the fire and the amount of damage until later today as the Fire Service was still in control of the site.

The site had been closed for the off-season, and was not due to begin receiving milk until mid-August. The few staff and contractors on site when the fire broke out had all been accounted for.

A staff briefing was held earlier today, and Fonterra Employee Assistance Programme members would be working closely with staff, Mr Parkin said.
