Families Commissioner, Health Experts Join Food Advertising Review
The Advertising Standards Authority today announced the membership of the Review Panel to consider submissions on the ASA Code for Advertising to Children and the ASA Code for Advertising of Food. The Review is occurring as a result of commitments made by the media and advertising industries under the Food Industry Accord.
The Review Panel will be a combination of public and industry members.
The public members are:
Dr Rajen Prasad - Chief Commissioner,

Cynthia Maling - Public Health
Directorate, Ministry of Health
Dr Lynne Lane - Public
Health Specialist
Bindy Barclay - Media Research
Centre, New Zealand Broadcasting School
Hilary Souter, Executive Director of the ASA, said “the ASA is very pleased that these individuals, all with a significant amount of expertise, have agreed to be a part of the Panel reviewing the codes on advertising to children and advertising food”.

The Panel will be chaired by David Innes, immediate past president of the Advertising Standards Authority. The former Executive Director of the ASA, Glen Wiggs is Secretary to the Panel.
The first meeting of the Panel will be on June 2 and a further round of consultation with interested parties is likely, prior to finalising any recommendations.
Ms Souter said that 25 submissions had been received from a range of groups and individuals commenting on the current codes. The panel is expected to report its findings to the Advertising Standards Authority in August.
