Passion for Excellence Takes
Harcourts Trainer to Top of Class
A passion for excellence has seen Katey Lane, Recruitment and Training Manager for Harcourts Grenadier Christchurch City, recognised by the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand for achieving top student in Massey University’s Graduate Diploma in Business Studies (endorsed in real estate). This is the first time in the eight year history of the award a South Islander has achieved top student.
A born and bred Cantabrian, Mrs Lane joined the real estate industry in sales in 1996, progressing through a career path to become Recruitment and Training Manager for the Christchurch City office. Three years ago she enrolled through Harcourts’ unique training division, The Academy, to study towards her AREINZ industry qualification and Massey University Business Studies diploma.
Mrs Lane said she was passionate about ongoing training and professionalism in the industry both for herself and others in her team. She admitted to being surprised at having achieved the top mark and said she had “loved it to bits, really enjoyed what I did and worked really hard.”
Mrs Lane has been instrumental in a number of growth areas for the Christchurch City office and the Harcourts Academy including designing a cadetship programme which ran successfully in her office, which is also the largest single office in Harcourts’ group of over 345 offices Australasian-wide.
Having completed her industry qualifications, Mrs Lane said was keen to see a clear line of upskilling and career options from sales through to management and eventual ownership to attract bright talent into the industry. She noted that being able to provide better and more knowledgeable service meant better results for clients who increasingly had more sophisticated expectations.
Head of the Harcourts Academy, Gilbert Enoka, said, “Katey is a fine example of a person who not only knows the importance of continuous upskilling, she embraces it and is a champion of it. This level of application maintains Harcourts’ commitment to offering the best training in the industry which is further reinforced through the Harcourts Academy having locked in 550 training days in 2005 alone.”
