2005 Property Council Of NZ Awards Announced

2005 Property Council Of New Zealand Awards Announced

New Zealand’s finest commercial property developments were recognised tonight (Friday 6 May) at the prestigious Property Council of New Zealand Awards presented by the Minister of Building Issues, Hon Chris Carter.

At the black tie gala affair held in Auckland’s Sky City, 750 leaders of New Zealand’s $14 billion commercial property industry, heard the Harbourside Business Park in Rosebank Road, Avondale declared the supreme winner of the Property Council Rider Hunt Award 2005.

Harbourside Business Park comprises five separate building modules, with a total of 20,452m2 of offices and warehousing, on 4ha of land fronting onto the Waitemata Harbour.

The chairman of the judging panel of the Property Council Awards, Stuart Kendon, said the Harbourside Business Park was voted ‘best of the best’ as it met all the awards’ criteria which recognise the most important aspects of the commercial built environment.

“In addition to purpose and function, entries are measured against the economic and financial factors influencing projects, design and construction of the buildings, best in efficiency of operation, owner and user satisfaction and the degree of difficulty associated with the development. As importantly, the Property Council Awards recognise the importance played by the team in producing outstanding property developments.

“The entries this year once more illustrate the very high standard of development that is currently being undertaken throughout New Zealand. In fact these entries comprise a short list of some of the better projects we have seen over the past 12 months,” said Mr Kendon.

“And, while it was once again a most difficult task to select the overall winner, in the end, the Harbourside Business Park proved to be the best. It is a visionary concept that was created after a careful analysis of the potential demand for commercial offices in a predominantly industrial area. Not only did it meet all the judging criteria, above all it demonstrated the most efficient use of capital.”

Mr Kendon said that although the number of entries was slightly down on last year, this appeared to be due to the extraordinary high level of new commercial property development and construction presently being undertaken throughout New Zealand. “The claim by many developers, building owners and managers that they are extremely busy working on new projects augers well for next year’s Awards,” he said.
