Inter-dependence central to New Zealand business says local award-winner

A North Shore businessman who recently won a prestigious award for his contribution to local business says many successful small to medium New Zealand enterprises are driven by a sense of inter-dependence.

Tony Casey, managing director of North Shore-based Auckland Business Coaches (ABC), recently won the Action International Coaches' Choice Award from a field of 250 Australasian business coaches. The entire New Zealand team of Action business coaches was also honoured at the Australasian Action International conference in Melbourne where Tony received his award.

Commenting on New Zealand's success, Tony Casey says today many New Zealand SMEs understand the benefits of inter-dependence and as a result draw on various resources available to them outside of their business.

"Business owners who are willing to seek external help or advice are much more likely to grow their businesses faster and more profitably," Tony says.

He says business owners that coaches work alongside are usually those who thrive on the concept of owning their own business.

"The idea of being your own boss has a strong appeal to many New Zealanders and that, coupled with our Kiwi ability to work hard, tends to motivate people into starting or buying a business," Tony says.

But, he says, many business owners today are finding that long hours spent working in a business take a toll on health, leisure and family time. And it's common to hear business owners bemoan the fact that their hard work has not produced great results.

"Consequently, many business owners are seeking outside help to grow their business so they can begin to enjoy the benefits of business ownership they craved when they started out.

"When they learn to let go of some of the 'doing' in the business, streamline their systems, establish a positive culture with their team and spend more time managing and thinking innovatively, they realise what they dreamed of is closer than they thought."

In the past two years, Tony has built the Auckland Business Coaches' team of 15 coaches who help Auckland business owners grow their small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs). The business is now the second largest team in the worldwide Action group.

Out of 19 countries, New Zealand was presented with the Action International Territory of the Year Award. It is the third time in four years New Zealand has won this award.

Action International, which has 600 coaches worldwide including 60 in New Zealand, was recently ranked by the prestigious Entrepreneur Magazine as the top business consulting service franchise for the second consecutive year.
