Putting a shine on your Sunday

Putting a shine on your Sunday

Look out for a new glossy magazine in your Herald on Sunday this weekend. It’s all part of some ‘tweaking’ by the newspaper following extensive reader feedback.

The Herald on Sunday’s lifestyle and entertainment magazine will now be printed on gloss paper and its name changes to Sunday View from Sunday Life & View.

Other developments include more news space – allowing for more indepth news features and breaking stories – and an expanded world section. And with a huge season of winter rugby ahead, the Herald on Sunday’s award-winning sports section now runs from the back of the paper.

Editor Shayne Currie says reader surveys have been a key part of the newspaper’s planning since before the launch of the Herald on Sunday.

“With these changes we are responding to what our readers are saying,” Mr Currie says.

“Sunday View continues to carry the best of lifestyle and entertainment features and you’ll still find our popular columnists like Wendyl Nissen, Peter Calder, Simon Gault and Timothy Giles.”

Mr Currie says other new features include a relationships column with both male and female opinions on matters of the heart and a travel section.

The newspaper will also be stapled from this weekend as part of a trial. “We think it will make the paper even easier to handle on a Sunday morning, but we’ll be guided by readers’ preferences,” says Mr Currie.

The Herald on Sunday surveys its readers weekly and the results are used to guide the design and content of the newspaper.

They also disclose the paper has expanded the Sunday market with 35 per cent of the Herald on Sunday’s readers saying they previously didn’t read a Sunday paper, Mr Currie says.
