Polaris builds 2 million ATVs
The world leader in ATV innovation, Polaris has just built its two millionth ATV.
The milestone helps mark the U.S. powersports company's 20th anniversary in the business of making the rugged, go-anywhere quad vehicles.
Last year Polaris Industries, listed on the New York Stock Exchange and a Fortune 500 company, celebrated its 50th anniversary. Much of its half-century of success revolved around snowmobiles, of which it is the world’s largest manufacturer.
But it is the brand’s acknowledged leadership in ATV technology that has rocketed it to global recognition as farmers, back-country people and recreational riders hop aboard.
Polaris traditionally has established new standards for the ATV industry, such as automatic transmission and independent rear suspension.
Last year worldwide sales of Polaris ATVs hit US$1.1 million, from a total company turnover of US$1.7m. The year also brought sales of Polaris ATVs to the US military.
Polaris ATVs are widely awarded across the range. The latest Predator 500 Troy Lee Edition sports / racing quad has been named "2005 Sport ATV of the Year" by US icon magazines ATV Guide and ATV Rider.
The new Polaris Sportsman 800EFI is setting new standards for power, performance and rideability with its industry-leading 800cc fuel-injected engine, all-wheel drive and clever long-travel independent suspension.
“Two million ATVs is another huge milestone in the growth of Polaris,” commented Australasian Marketing Manager Neil Anderson.
“You don’t reach a sales level like that without engineering excellent products that people trust.
“With 21 models, Polaris has Australasia's largest range of ATVs, recognised throughout the industry for their hard-working toughness combined with the smoothest ride in the business.
“We call Polaris, The Way Out, because that’s exactly what Polaris offers to farmers, to contractors and utility-users, and to weekend fun riders,” said Mr Anderson. Based in Minnesota, Polaris has engineering, manufacturing and distribution facilities across the American Midwest, and wholly-owned subsidiaries in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France and Great Britain.
Polaris, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2004, totally designs, engineers, manufactures and markets its own ATVs, snowmobiles and other powersports products for distribution to 126 countries.
Polaris Industries is a $US1.8 billion turnover company listed on the New York Stock Exchange and noted as a Fortune 500 Company.
