Teacher performance pay good for education
Performance pay for teachers would help get better educated students, says Business NZ.
Commenting on National’s education statement today, Business NZ Chief Executive Phil O’Reilly said it was time teachers caught up with other professions in achieving performance pay.
“It’s the consumer who benefits when professionals are paid according to performance,” Mr O’Reilly said. “New Zealand businesses wanting skilled employees are key customers of the education system, and they would welcome better financial incentives for teachers.”
He said businesses would also appreciate improved administration of NCEA and initiatives to help students achieve in the key areas of reading and maths.
“I hope other parties follow National’s lead in releasing their education policies early in the election campaign so that all of us who are consumers of the education system – and that’s all New Zealanders – can make an informed choice come election time.
