New Editor Announced For Sunday Magazine
Fairfax New Zealand is delighted to announce the appointment of Emily Simpson as the new editor of SUNDAY magazine, to
replace Lauren Quaintance who has been promoted to a senior role with Fairfax in Sydney.
Emily Simpson is an award-winning journalist whose past roles have included sub editor then reporter at The Dominion (as
it was at the time), deputy editor of Next magazine and is the current editor of PRODESiGN.
Sunday Star-Times editor Cate Brett says that while they were sorry to be losing Quaintance they have been absolutely
delighted at finding such a talented journalist who is highly capable of filling her shoes so quickly.
Simpson will take up the position on Monday, 2 May working alongside Quaintance and will be taking over the editorship
for around the first birthday issue in June.
Fairfax Magazines general manager Amanda Murphy comments, "Emily is a young, well respected journalist who is also a
typical SUNDAY magazine reader. The blueprint for SUNDAY magazine has been set under Lauren's tenure and Emily has the
vibrancy and passion to progress it to the next level. Emily is well known in the magazine industry but her core
training lies in newspaper journalism. SUNDAY is a stand alone magazine within a national newspaper and Emily
understands both environments which puts her in a unique position."
SUNDAY has established itself with strong readership and phenomenal ad sales in a highly competitive market with latest
readership figures showing it is now New Zealand's most-read newspaper-inserted magazine with 497,000 readers*.
Ms Brett said that the appointment of Emily Simpson as the new editor ensures consistency to a strong and talented team
and provides Emily with an opportunity to build on Quaintance's vision for the magazine.
