New Zealand’s Future Leaders To Start Leadership New Zealand Programme
Twenty-three talented New Zealanders are embarking on the first one-year Leadership New Zealand programme, which opens today in Auckland.
Leadership New Zealand has been formed to foster the leadership expertise of “mid-career” New Zealanders who have 10 to 15 years experience in the workforce. It aims to develop a lasting culture of leadership in New Zealand.
Jo Brosnahan of Leadership New Zealand says the first intake of participants is of an exceptionally high calibre. They represent a broad range of sectors and are an example of people who’re already leaders in their own right.
“They will be confronted by ideas and ways of thinking from all walks of life and will take away an in depth understanding of the different sectors to better serve their organisations and the community,” she says.
The participants come from a diverse background, from the telecommunications industry to the clergy.
Jo Brosnahan says the programme will strengthen the skills of the leaders within their own organisation and give them vital skills that they will take back to the community through SkillsBank.
“These are New Zealand’s future leaders and the programme they will undertake this year is a major step towards becoming leaders for life,” she says.
At the end of the programme the graduates will remain a part of Leadership New Zealand for life. They will also form part of SkillsBank and will be matched with non-profit and community organisations to provide valuable professional and commercial advice, mentoring and guidance on a pro bono basis.
“This is more than networking - it crosses the boundaries, it’s about building lasting relationships across all sectors from business to government to the arts and the community,” she says.
The programme requires participants to attend a series of challenging, life enriching seminars, retreats and field trips around the country. They begin in Auckland with a 3 day session on Leadership – values, ethics, life values and balance.
