ihug to Launch New High-Speed Broadband in January ’05
In another move to improve the online experience for all Kiwis, ihug will be announcing a new range of 1 and 2MB
broadband plans for release in January 2005.
The new high-speed broadband will allow customers to surf, share, download, upload and play games at incredible speed.
The new plans follow ihug’s existing 256kbps bliink products, which were launched in September.
“The bliink range has been hugely popular with our customers because it opens up a range of new possibilities for how
they can use the internet,” says Guy Nelson, ihug general manager New Zealand. “With the launch of the new 1 and 2MB
packages we believe ‘true broadband’ will enable our customers to find even more new and exciting ways to use the web to
enrich their lives.
“Over the past few months we’ve had scores of calls for a higher-speed option. We know there will be a many people out
there who will be ‘rapt’ with this latest offering, and we’ll be contacting them directly with the good news,” says
Nelson.
The announcement follows the conclusion of commercial discussions with Telecom for the supply of wholesale services.
Both parties have agreed that meeting the national target of 250,000 broadband customers will require an effort from a
number of service providers offering a range of services. These new products from ihug will help meet that target.
“This change is a huge step toward improving New Zealand’s international competitiveness. Getting good quality broadband
to Kiwis is fundamental to the future viability of our businesses and our kids’ educations,” says Nelson.
ihug will release the details of the new high-speed internet plans in the New Year.
