Motorists Need To Check Pump Price Before Filling Up
With petrol prices increasing again, after a welcome drop in price earlier in the month reflecting a lower world price and a strengthening NZ dollar, this sudden increase of 4c per litre for 91 octane raises questions from motorists of the justification for this sudden reversal of the trend, said George Fairbairn, AA Director of Public Affairs.
A more particular concern is the growing lack of price details on the boards outside retail outlets. Before filling their tank, motorists need to be certain of the price showing on the pump as there may well have been further changes in the price, which are not displayed clearly when driving into the forecourt.
“As the holiday season approaches, motorists are reminded to keep their tanks full while the possibility of increasing volatility of pump prices remains”, Mr Fairbairn said. Also to take advantage of possible lower prices in main centres in comparison to pump prices at more remote spots and holiday locations, where there may not be the same competition between suppliers.
