Great Summer Cooking
More people are eating more pork, and with summer underway the New Zealand Pork Industry Board is giving consumers new ideas, not just for Christmas hams and roasts, but also for easy barbeque meals to cook outside.
The Wattie’s “Food in a minute” prime-time television spot is featuring easy ideas for glazing hams as well as demonstrating the use of a roasting thermometer for a pork roast.
The Board’s Marketing Manager, John Quigley, said that using a thermometer is the best method to ensure pork is cooked the way you like it every time. The Board is making some thermometers available for sale through the retail trade and to its Recipe Club members.
“More and more consumers are cooking pork on the barbeque now and we are going out there looking for people to share their best barbequed pork recipe.
“The Board is joining with the BBQ Factory to run an exciting competition in which consumers can be in to win one of two barbeques each month until April, by simply sending us their favourite 100% New Zealand Pork recipe,” he said.
There will also be 50 runner-up prizes of barbeque accessories plus product prizes from Lee Kum Kee and Speight’s.
The Board is distributing a new 16 page, Mike’s BBQ Meals Recipe Booklet through supermarkets ready for the holiday period. These recipes will feature in a new series of Mike’s Meals that will begin screening on television towards the end of January. In the new series, Mike King goes on the road, introducing his mates, a new lot of Mikes who will cook up a new lot of pork recipes from all around New Zealand.
John Quigley said that all the recipes feature 100% New Zealand Pork, being cooked on a standard three burner BBQ from the BBQ Factory, and all the recipes can be adapted to the household kitchen.
100% New Zealand Trim Pork mince, fillet and loin chops are used in the recipes which are available on the www.pork.co.nz website.
Entry details for the BBQ pork recipe competition are in the new Mike’s BBQ Meals booklet or on the websites www.pork.co.nz or www.bbqfactory.co.nz.
