Compass to offer services over Extend
Compass Communications Limited has signed an agreement with Broadcast Communications Limited (BCL), New Zealand's wireless communications network company, to offer broadband solutions to business customers via BCL's Extend network.
Compass Communications Chief Executive Officer, Karim Hussona, says Extend complements Compass' own wireless network and will enable it to provide cost-effective Internet and data solutions to customers in more locations.
Compass is already assessing the suitability of Extend to provide services to customers in the Bay of Plenty region and plans to use the network to support customers in the Waikato, South Auckland and Franklin areas.
"We have a number of customers in rural and provincial areas for whom a reliable, high-speed data connection is an important business requirement. The agreement with BCL means we can now offer those customers a cost-effective solution using Extend," he says.
As well as using Extend to provide high-speed Internet access, Compass will use it to offer private office networking solutions for customers who need fast data links between multiple sites.
Karim Hussona says because Extend uses secure wireless technology and connects directly into BCL's IP core network, it can also provide a technology-independent connection for customers who require a back up to safeguard existing communication links.
BCL Managing Director Geoff Lawson says the agreement with Compass is great news because it means more competition and a greater choice of telecommunications provider for businesses in regional and provincial areas.
Launched in November 2003, Extend is New Zealand's first nationwide wireless broadband access network. It brings the benefits of affordable high-speed Internet access and a choice of service provider to thousands of farms, schools and businesses in rural and provincial New Zealand for the first time.
As well as Compass, BCL has agreements with Telecom, Iconz, ihug and Inspire Net to retail the Extend suite of broadband products.
About Compass Communications Compass Communications was established in 1995 and provides a broad range of cost effective telecommunications and Internet products and services to business and residential customers throughout New Zealand.
Compass owns and operates its own voice, data and high speed wireless access networks with coverage and points of presence in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton, Dunedin, Whangarei, Rotorua, Tauranga, Palmerston North, Queenstown and Sydney.
