Bank of New Zealand increases its student scholarship offering
Bank of New Zealand has increased its commitment to supporting New Zealand youth by offering a further four students the
chance to alleviate the financial pressure associated with full time study.
The programme has been expanded for 2005 to increase the number of scholarship being offered from 12 to 16.
Andrew Whitechurch, Bank of New Zealand General Manager of Business Development and Strategy, says two scholarships will
now be offered to eight universities throughout the country.
“As well as academic achievement, our scholarships recognise leadership skills and community contribution in sports,
cultural or community activities. “We’ve operated an extensive scholarship programme for the last 14 years to help us
identify and target future leaders and to give something back to the communities we operate in,” Mr Whitechurch says.
Bank of New Zealand undergraduate scholarships of $3000 are available at AUT, University of Auckland, University of
Waikato, Massey University, Victoria University of Wellington, University of Canterbury, Lincoln University and
University of Otago. Students applying must be in their last year of an undergraduate degree in any field of study.
The Bank is also offering eight graduate scholarships at the same institutions. These $4000 scholarships are for
students in their last year of a Ph.D, Masters Degree or Postgraduate Diploma in any field of study.
Applications for Bank of New Zealand scholarships open on 12 January 2005 and close on 1 April 2005. The New Zealand
Vice Chancellors’ Committee administers Bank of New Zealand scholarships through the Scholarship Offices at each of the
universities, and the Bank plays a key role in the selection process.
