Kiwi Engineering Behind "Rising Star"
Kiwi Engineering Behind "Rising Star" In Us Deloitte Technology Fast 500 Programme
Christchurch - Telogis, a fleet management solutions company whose research and development is provided by a Kiwi engineering team, has been named a Rising Star on the 2004 Deloitte Technology Fast 500, a ranking of the 500 fastest growing technology companies in North America. A special category, the Rising Star list ranks 25 winners that have been in business less than five years, but at least three years. They are ranked based on percentage of growth in revenues over three years (2001 to 2003). Telogis is ranked 23rd out of 25.
Telogis has clocked in at 946% revenue growth over the past three years. The company is a trans-Pacific enterprise featuring primarily United States funding and sales, with research and development and manufacture provided in Christchurch.
Christchurch-based technology director Ralph Mason says the accolade is recognition for the company's ability to evolve quickly based on a strong understanding of the market and the development of usable, well-designed, intelligent solutions. The company's commercial team is based in Orange County, California. The Rising Star accolade stems from the company's number 5 ranking for revenue growth in Orange County, which is known as the Technology Coast.
"We attribute our success to our ability to identify significant gaps in the telematics and GIS markets, and quickly respond with solutions that the market needs. We saw the gaps when we were trying to integrate an end-to-end fleet management solution that would take care of all aspects of planning, delivering and monitoring routes, and realised that this would not be possible until we created such a solution ourselves," says Mason.
Telogis currently provides turn-key solutions through direct sales and resellers. The company is moving to target the OEM market, in which systems integrators and solution developers incorporate Telogis solutions into their offerings.
To qualify as a Fast 500 Rising Star, entrants must have had 2001 operating revenues of at least $US50,000 and $CAN75,000; and 2003 operating revenues of at least $1 million (US or Canada).
Entrants must also be public or private companies headquartered in North America, and be a "technology company" defined as a company that owns proprietary technology that contributes to a significant portion of the company's operating revenues; or devotes a significant proportion of revenues to the research and development of technology. Using other companies' technology in a unique way does not qualify.
Mark A. Evans, national managing partner of Deloitte's Technology, Media and Communication Group in the United States says the achievement is a credit to the leadership of Telogis that they have managed to ramp up their business so quickly. "It's not easy for a young company to get traction in the technology marketplace, let alone report such phenomenal revenue growth," he says. - ends -
