Harveys Auction Raises Over $11,000 For Matakana School
Harveys Warkworth staff put their skills to work for Matakana School this Labour Weekend, helping to raise over $11,000 by auction at the annual school gala.
164 items ranging from small toys through to a flight simulation session at Auckland Airport were put under the hammer by branch auctioneer Ben Kloppers and assistant John Mc Clenaghan.
First time bidders were encouraged to take part, and people from across the area came to bag a bargain in sometimes intense but good spirited competition.
According to Mr Kloppers, the auction was all about helping to raise funds for the school while ensuring everyone enjoyed the experience and excitement of buying at auction. Between 200 and 300 people visited the auction tent at any one time during the proceedings.
“It was great to have such an enthusiastic audience,” he says. “We wanted to offer a range of small to big ticket items so that everyone could come in, put their hand up and have a go – and they certainly did. The crowd really enjoyed it.”
This is the third year the Warkworth branch staff have run the auction, and they are keen to continue their involvement for some time yet. “Its something the staff really look forward to being involved in each year,” says Mr Kloppers.
Money raised from the auction will be used to improve facilities and increase the size of the school’s grounds.
