Starship Auction Success
Barfoot & Thompson auctioneer David Johnstone played a key role in helping to raise almost $100,000 for the weekend’s highly successful annual Starship Foundation Charity Ball.
There was spirited bidding for 15 lots ranging from a two minute toy grab in Hasbro’s warehouse to a ‘trip’ in an Air New Zealand flight training simulator. Two items each went for the top price of $7,750 - a trip for two to Wimbledon 2005 and a Mark Olsen original painting.
The Starship Foundation made a total of $56,000 from the live auction, with the final tally boosted by table donations and a silent auction.
The Starship Charity Ball and associated auction is one of the Foundation’s key fundraising events of the year. Starship Foundation ambassador Lucy Lawless flew in from Los Angeles especially for the event which was attended by 385 people.
As Starship Foundation’s newest Five Star Sponsor, Barfoot & Thompson provided the auctioneer for the evening and professional auction staff who worked as spotters to make sure every last charity dollar was extracted for the benefit of children’s health. David Johnstone is one of Barfoot & Thompson’s team of five auctioneers and was a finalist in the recent New Zealand Auctioneering Championships.
