Bay of Plenty businesses shine in national Sustainable Business Awards
Bay businesses featured strongly in the national Sustainable Business Awards held in Auckland last night. Ohiwa Holiday Park were judged the most sustainable small business in the country, while Bay tourism businesses Waimangu Volcanic Valley and White Island tours were awarded commendations in the medium business category. Comvita, a honey products company were commended in the large business section, while fertiliser manufacturers Ballance Agri Nutrients picked up a commendation in the sustainability innovation category.
Calum Revfem, regional manager for the Sustainable Business Network was not surprised by the results. “The outstanding showing by Bay of Plenty businesses in the awards reflects the realisation by businesses in this region that being sustainable is good for business”.
The judges were particularly impressed by the social responsibility demonstrated by the Bay of Plenty entrants. Special mention was made of Ohiwa Holiday Park’s involvement in the local community and Comvita’s bee keeping training scholarships.
