Irene van Dyk and ZESPRI Join Forces for KidsFair 2004

Silver Ferns’ goal shooting superstar, Mum, Sportswoman of the Year and teacher, Irene van Dyk will be handing out ZESPRI™ GREEN and GOLD Kiwifruit at the KidsFair 2004 in Auckland this weekend [Sunday 26 September 2004].

Irene will be on the ZESPRI stand at the KidsFair as part of the Heart of Gold campaign, of which she is the ambassador.

“Nothing delights me more than to be involved in a campaign that encourages healthy eating, reading and a love of books,” said Irene.

“Kiwifruit are packed with goodness, they’re easy to eat and they taste great. My daughter Bianca loves it when I put Kiwifruit in her school lunch box.”

The Heart of Gold Campaign is an innovative campaign initiated by Southern Produce and sponsored by ZESPRI International, HarperCollins Publishers NZ, and New World, Pak ‘n Save, Write Price and Four Square supermarkets.

Anyone who purchases Kiwifruit with the Heart of Gold label from New World, Pak ‘n Save, Write Price and Four Square supermarkets can collect the Heart of Gold labels and give them to their local school (early childhood centres, primary and intermediate schools). Schools can cash the Heart of Gold labels in for free books for their school from the Heart of Gold website.

“ZESPRI is proud to sponsor of The Heart of Gold campaign, which benefits children throughout New Zealand – from the nutritional benefits of eating Kiwifruit and from the benefit of the free books their local school receives,” said ZESPRI Chief Executive, Tim Goodacre.

Says Heart of Gold organiser Tony Ponder from Southern Produce: “Just as our minds need to be stimulated through books, our body needs to maintain good health and energy – what better way than through the combination of books and fresh Kiwifruit.”

Bite for bite, Kiwifruit contains more vitamins and minerals than most of other popular fruits. A serving of two Kiwifruit contains the Vitamin C of two oranges, the potassium of a banana, and all the fibre of one bowl of bran. Kiwifruit are also rich in lutein, an antioxidant known to reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease.

Irene van Dyk will be on the ZESPRI stand from 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm on Sunday 26 September 2004.
