Miranda Brown and Subaru of New Zealand have formed an ongoing marketing partnership that includes sponsorship of the designer’s Air New Zealand Fashion Week catwalk show.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for my label because it will not only provide much-needed sponsorship dollars going into Fashion Week, but will also add a lot more muscle to my ongoing marketing activities,” says Miranda Brown.
“Subaru are serious about making the partnership work hard for both companies over the medium- to long-term so I’m just thrilled to bits about it.”
The partnership reflects Subaru’s increased emphasis on exemplary interior and exterior design in its latest range of vehicles.
“In terms of our brand values, it’s a great ‘fit’ for us to form an ongoing strategic relationship with an exciting up-and-coming New Zealand designer of Miranda’s calibre and philosophy,” says Wallis Dumper, General Manager of Subaru of New Zealand.
“Our ongoing rallying success has already proven Subaru’s technical superiority. This partnership will enable us to more boldly foreground the pure design excellence of our vehicles as well.”
Miranda Brown has grown quickly since 2001 to become a well-established label now selling through 26 stores in a dozen cities worldwide. The Miranda Brown range extends well beyond the catwalk to her own homeware design range including exquisitely hand-crafted blankets, throws, cushions, and lamps.
The most obvious quality that sets Miranda Brown’s clothes apart is her insistence on building her garments ‘from the ground up’. Using the finest textiles available – particularly New Zealand wool and luxury wool-mixes – she employs labour-intensive shibori resist-dye techniques to build complex and intriguingly layered designs directly into the fabric.
"My fabrics speak of vitality and energy. My approach is to take premium New Zealand fabrics and infuse them with motifs expressing the strength and timeless beauty of the natural world," she says.
“It is my use of primarily NZ wool and the strongly hand-built nature of my product with a contemporary design feel that first attracted Subaru’s attention. Now we will work together to employ these and other strengths to promote both brands.”
